Frey Holland has faced her fair share of challenges, but Forspoken: In Tanta We Trust may just be her biggest yet. This new DLC sends the magic-wielding hero somewhere very dangerous indeed: the past.

Waking up during the infamous Purge of the Rheddig, Frey embarks on a journey to save Athia from this dangerous invading force and discover the truth behind the origins of the Break… but she’s not doing it alone. She’s joined on her quest by Tanta Cinta, and only by working together can the two hope to succeed.

The new chapter adds a rich new story, new powers to use and new areas to explore… but it’s no walk in the park. The forces of the Rheddig are strong and numerous - you’ll need to be at the top of your game to beat them. Fortunately, we’re here to help.

We’ve put together seven basic tips and tricks to help you get to take the fight to this dangerous new enemy. With this advice, nothing will be able to stop you:

1. Stay on the move

She may be embodying someone from the past, but mobility remains Frey’s greatest asset. You should never stand still for too long - you’ll be facing a lot of enemies at once, and you don’t want to get overwhelmed.

Instead, use hit and run tactics to keep your foes off your back. Launch powerful attacks at enemy and then magic parkour to dodge their attacks. If you start to feel overwhelmed, back off and find some space.

Frey’s impressive maneuverability means you can literally run rings around your opposition, so take advantage of that to stay out of trouble!

2. ABC: Always Be Crystallizing

In Tanta We Trust throws you into some particularly tricky scraps, with hordes of enemies that attack from both the ground and the air. Add some pretty hefty health bars, and you have a recipe for trouble.

That’s where your new powers come into play. Some of the new abilities at your disposal - such as Skewer and Shock - cause enemies to crystallize when struck. This gives you a short window to instruct Tanta Cinta to unleash a devastating attack that hits the foe - and those around it - with a flurry of powerful blows.

When you see an enemy hit with the status effect, you’ll see a prompt (triangle button on PS5). Press this, and Cinta will leap into action - you’ll be amazed how quickly the hordes fall to Frey and Cinta’s combined efforts.

3. Be alert to Cinta’s support

As well as helping you dish out the damage, Cinta’s also there to tend to your wounds. Take enough hits, and she may cast a healing spell that restores your precious health when you’re inside its bubble.

It doesn’t last long, so try to take advantage of its effects when you can. In the heat of battle, it’s easy to parkour away from the healing zone and miss the opportunity entirely, so stay alert. You can only carry a few healing items at a time, so anything that lets you save your supply is welcome.

4. Don’t hold back with Fusion magic

As you play through the story of In Tanta We Trust, you’ll earn the ability to use Fusion Magic. The way it works is simple: landing hits on enemies, or performing parkour moves during fights, fills the Ally Gauge. When this is maxed out, you can call on Cinta to perform a special attack that typically knocks foes down, ready for a critical strike.

The damage is nice, but the real value is that it sets up a Fusion attack. When hit by Cinta, enemies will be surrounded by a special aura. If you then follow up with a charged spell, your magics will react to each other with a spectacular, high-damage explosion.

This is invaluable - particularly when taking on the tougher members of the Rheddig forces - so don’t feel you need to hold back or save it for a rainy day. The Ally Gauge fills relatively quickly, so you’re never too far away from a good Fusion.

It’s powerful, fast-recharging and oh-so-satisfying to pull off. So use it!

5. Take advantage of spellcraft challenges

As in the main campaign, the DLC includes activate spellcraft challenges for each spell. If you fulfill the requirements of these challenges, you can upgrade your powers leading to faster cooldowns, more powerful attacks and other useful bonuses.

Once a challenge is complete, remember that you can upgrade its associated spell immediately - you don’t need to travel back to a camp. However, always try to have three on the go, so you can complete as many as possible - they really do make a difference.

It’s up to you which you use, but if we have one recommendation…

6. Upgrade Swing ASAP

The Swing ability works identically to ‘Zip’ in the main game, allowing Frey to launch a magical tether to pull her towards things or swing on certain parts of the scenery. It’s an important skill - very useful when traversing the world, and tremendous fun to use.

We strongly recommend completing the Spellcraft Challenge for this power as soon as it’s available. Once upgraded, you can use it without expending any stamina, freeing up your traversal options dramatically.

It will also prove useful in a very entertaining section towards the end of the new chapter, where your traversal skills will be put to the test… but that’s all we’ll say here. Spoilers, y’know?

7. Explore the expanded options in the settings

This isn’t limited to the new DLC, but Forspoken has recently been updated with some exciting new features that really let you tailor it to your preferred playstyle.

For example, there are new options for targeting, which let you auto lock onto enemies after taking down a foe, or even target enemies off-screen. Other new options include “Immunity to Own Magic”, which prevents Frey from being staggered by her own spells, and the option to set main menu to always default to the map, rather than the last page you looked at.

That’s in addition to the existing options, such the ability to auto-switch support spells, auto-dodge attacks and more. In short, there are many ways to customize your Forspoken experience, so explore the Gameplay and Accessibility settings and find the ones that suit you.

With those seven tips and tricks, you should be more than ready to take the fight to the Rheddig once and for all.
