Long-time RPG fans have probably stopped reading this now and are racing to their consoles to frantically download the game. For everyone else though, I’ll explain a little about the game - and why it’s considered by fans as one of the all-time greats.
What is VALKYRIE PROFILE: LENNETH?
We’ll start with a little history lesson.
VALKYRIE PROFILE launched for the original PlayStation in 1999 in Japan, and later in 2000 for North American players. This bold new RPG that shook up the genre, with innovative mechanics like side-scrolling exploration, a melancholy story and a richly imaginative setting inspired by Norse mythology.
It also featured incredible music by Motoi Sakuraba - the game is considered by many to have one of the greatest soundtracks of all time.
The game made a welcome return on PlayStation Portable in 2006 in Japan and North America, and 2007 in Europe and Australia as VALKYRIE PROFILE: LENNETH. Everything that fans loved about the original was present and correct - the thrilling combat, the incredible music, the fascinating characters and more.
It’s this version of the game that’s available now on PS5 and PS4 - with some welcome enhancements too, including a rewind function, quick save and load, visual presets etc, making it the most convenient way to play
What is the story of VALKYRIE PROFILE: LENNETH?
Long ago, the worlds were forged: Midgard, the domain of mortals, and Asgard, the realm of celestial beings, such as elves, giants, and gods.
Now war ravages Asgard. Ragnarok looms, threatening the end of everything. You play as Lenneth - a newly risen Valkyrie who is sent to Midgard by Odin to collect the souls of the worthy. The Valkyrie encounters many spirits, some hostile, and others who will fight at her side as Einherjar.
She has a big task before her - but what will she learn about Ragnarok… and herself?
