Square Enix Co., Ltd (henceforth "The Company") are delighted to hear that fans want to share videos and images of our games online.
While The Company would like to accommodate such requests, the images, videos, characters, music and all other creative elements that make up our games are the intellectual property of The Company or its licensors, and therefore The Company has set out individual guidelines regarding the use of videos and other assets from each of its games on a title-by-title basis, in order to suitably maintain and protect the integrity of their settings and fiction of The Company's games going forward.
Regarding the use of videos, live streams, and images (hereafter referred to as "Videos etc.") of "NieR:Automata" and "NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139..." (hereafter jointly referred to as "the Series"), please adhere to the terms of these guidelines.
Parties Eligible to Use Materials
Individual users living outside Japan (including those who receive payment or other rewards from a corporate body through streaming gameplay).
Materials That Can Be Used
The items that can be used in accordance with these guidelines (henceforth "Materials for Use") are as follows:
- Fan kits for the Series
- The official sites below of the Series and the text, information, images, and videos contained within the site below operated by the Company
- Text displayed within the Series, screenshots taken in the game, and videos captured in the game
- Tracks and music data used in the Series
However, this excludes the following:
- Sections within the Series where screen capture and recording are prohibited.
- The ending of the NieR:Automata "3C3C1D119440927" DLC
- Content specially included in the Series for collaboration events etc.
Scope of Use
- (1) For individuals who receive payment or other compensation from a corporate body for streaming gameplay:
- Use of the "Materials for Use" on social networking services etc. under the name of the user (or the names of multiple people) uploading Videos etc.
- Streaming of the "Materials for Use" under the name of the user (or the names of multiple people) uploading Videos etc. on video sharing sites (e.g. "YouTube", "Twitch") that have been licensed by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) for the use of music.
- (2) For individuals to whom clause (1) does not apply:
- Use of the "Materials for Use" on home pages, blogs, video sharing site accounts, social networking services etc. under the name of the user (or the names of multiple people) uploading Videos etc.
- Streaming of the "Materials for Use" under the name of the user (or the names of multiple people) uploading Videos etc. on video sharing sites (e.g. "YouTube", "Twitch") that have been licensed by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) for the use of music.
Use under the name of a corporate body is not permitted.
Please refrain from use on the types of sites and services listed below:
- Sites or services that require payment to view.
- Sites or services that are only aimed at users aged 18 or over.
- Sites or services that infringe standards of public moral decency.
- Sites or services that are related to religious, political or antisocial activities.
- Please do not use the Materials of Use for commercial purposes.
- However, systems that provide revenue to users posting content and are officially provided by video streaming sites (e.g. "YouTube", "Twitch") that have been licensed for music usage by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) can be used.
- For posts and live streams, please display the legal lines below.

The required legal lines above may be displayed automatically if images or videos are captured using game console functions. If such images or videos are to be used in an unchanged state, then the legal lines do not need to be added manually.
- Please do not remove or modify the trademark and copyright notices included in The Materials for Use.
- Exceptions are made for platforms such as "X" where space to display text is limited, and the legal lines do not need to be displayed in these cases.
- If multiple images or videos are included on the same page, then one set of legal lines can be displayed to cover all content on that page, rather than individually for each image or video.
- If streaming scenes that are major points in the game's story, please make sure to display a "spoiler alert" notice to prevent ruining the experience for people who have not played it yet. Please also take this into consideration for video thumbnails and the like.
- Any posting, broadcasting or featuring in a written format (henceforth "Posting etc.") of videos and playlists etc. of the kind included on the list below is strictly prohibited and any such Posting etc. may be deleted or suitable usage fees collected via the relevant platform's monetisation systems at the discretion of The Company or a third party entrusted to handle such cases by The Company.
Prohibited Posting Examples
- Anything where the content is mostly or entirely taken from movie scenes in the game (including event scenes and following the same definition in all cases henceforth)
- Publishing of multiple still images from movie scenes consecutively, for the sole purpose of showing the content of said movie scenes.
- Anything created for the main purpose of listening to the game's music
- Videos etc. deemed as "created for the main purpose of listening to the game's music" include those that allow viewers to continuously listen to music data included in the Series through actions not in line with regular gameplay, such as only showing a still image background or making the player character stand still or continuously repeat a simple action while music is playing, or encouraging viewers to listen to the game music in isolation by adjusting the relative volumes of voices and sound effects.
- Please do not combine the "Materials for Use" with content outside of the Series.
- Please refrain from secondary use of published Videos etc.
- e.g. Collecting already published Videos etc. and distributing them through a different medium, such as in a booklet. Such activities are considered as secondary use, regardless of whether the content is provided for free or charged for.
- Please do not use for advertising other products, services etc.
- Please adhere to the terms of the media that will be used.
- Please do not take part in acts that may lead to slander towards others.
- Please do not use for any purposes that run contrary to public order or good morals.
- Please do not use for any religious, political or antisocial activities.
- Please do not overly process or modify the Materials for Use.
- Regardless of the reason, if the Company requests for Videos etc. to be taken down, please take them down without delay. The Company may also delete any Videos etc. that it judges to be inappropriate.
- Creating content by combining the "Materials for Use", or adding your own voiceover or similar showcasing or commentating on the Series to Videos etc. is permitted.
Other
- The Company will not take any responsibility towards users, including the "Materials for Use" not infringing on the rights of third parties. Users make use of The Materials for Use under their own responsibility. The Company cannot be held responsible for compensation regarding damages or disputes with third parties, including other players, resulting from any use of The Materials for Use.
- The Company reserves the right to update the contents of these guidelines under the Company's discretion. If any Videos etc. made public via Posting etc. before these guidelines had been updated do not meet the terms of the new guidelines after the update, the affected Videos etc. may be deleted retroactively.
- Users who post Videos etc. that contravene these guidelines may be temporarily or permanently banned from using the Software.
- If the user themselves publishes their own ID, the user assumes responsibility for having done so.
- In the DLC purchase screen, the user's account ID for the platform that they are using may be displayed. Please be careful.
