The Big Question: Which Square Enix game would you make into a movie?

We’re asking YOU the Big Questions! This week, we’re taking a hypothetical tour through the Square Enix cinematic universe.

We love our fans. We’re blessed with a community that’s largely passionate, funny, warm, clever and articulate. And boy you sure do have Opinions.

And you know what? We love to hear them, so we’ve started to ask The Big Questions. Our hope is to inspire conversation, share your passions, and generally just have fun. To be clear, there are no announcements, secrets or hints to the future here - it’s just a chance for all of us to come together and celebrate the games we love!

This week, we had a real thinker of a query:

If any Square Enix game were to be turned into a movie adaptation, which would you advocate for and why?

Your response was amazing. You had all kinds of amazing ideas - from games from the DRAGON QUEST, FINAL FANTASY and KINGDOM HEARTS series, to deeper dives into our back catalogue that even we didn’t think of!

Let’s take a look at just some of your thoughts!

Well, this is genuinely inspiring. If only there was an actor out there who has both talent and a proven love of FINAL FANTASY VIII

Tee hee.

A double bill of pastoral perfection! Truly impeccable taste!

And what a unique and wonderful movie it would be - you could probably describe it as ‘Kefkaesque’.

One for the intellectual crowd there.

Right there with you Deenial. If I watched that, I'd probably be Besaid myself.

Would be fun to try though, right? Incidentally here’s a fun fact: VAGRANT STORY is the game that THEATRHYTHM FINAL BAR LINE Producer Ichiro Hazama wishes everyone would try (other than his own of course).

…what do you mean, that was a shameless attempt to persuade people to play my beloved THEATRHYTHM? I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Agreed TokyoRobb. I’d pay to l’Cie that in the theater.

And Caius Ballad deserves his time in the spotlight again too. Top tier antagonist right there!

Also Torgal. Don’t forget Torgal!

YES PLEASE to an OCTOPATH TRAVELER TV series. In fact, let’s make it 8 Seasons and a Movie!

(This is what’s known as Community management btw).

You mean that one with an expanded free trial with which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and the award-winning Stormblood expansion up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime? And with some amazing vocalists on the soundtrack?

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

Really? OK then let’s wrap it up then guys! It's a wash.

Some really interesting ideas here - thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts. Even the unpublishable ones.
