Ask fans what new job they want in FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, and one answer comes up time and time again - the Blue Mage.

Well, those fans will be feeling far from blue today because it’s finally here! As in available to use right now.

At this point, I have to assume all the long-term FINAL FANTASY XIV Online players have run off to get going, but the rest of you might be wondering…

What is a Blue Mage?

The new Blue Mage job presents an entirely new way to play within the world of Hydaelyn. Suddenly every battle takes on a whole new significance - it’s not just about loot and XP but a learning experience. Literally.

See, the Blue Mage is able to mimic monster abilities, and learns actions through fighting those same beasts. At launch, the job will have access to 49 unique monster abilities, and that will only increase in future updates.

You can watch it in action on YouTube:

How do I play as a Blue Mage in FINAL FANTASY XIV Online?

To get access to the new limited job, you need to have achieved a level 50 Disciple of War or Magic class/job and completed the main story quest “The Ultimate Weapon” in A Realm Reborn.

If you meet those criteria, you’re good to go. At launch, the Blue Mage has a level cap of 50, and much like the monster abilities, that will be expanded in future updates.

What can I do as a Blue Mage?

What, you mean the ability to bash beasties and steal their skills isn’t enough? Okay, how about a new Blue Mage-exclusive duty?

Once you reach level 50 with a Blue Mage, you’ll be able to participate in The Masked Carnivale. This solo challenge pits you against a range of opponents across 25 stages, in order to gain weekly rewards.

What’s next for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online?

Last week Patch 4.5 went live, adding new story quests and setting up the conclusion to the Stormblood storyline. That finale is set to climax in late March with Patch 4.56, which will also pave the way for this summer’s Shadowbringers expansion.

In addition, there will be more updates for the Patch 4.5 series, adding new features and content for all players.

If you’re excited about Shadowbringers, you won’t have to wait long to find out more. There will be tons of new information to share at the Paris Fan Festival event on 2-3 February 2019, and the Tokyo Fan Festival, planned for 23-24 March 2019.

All events will be streamed on the official FINAL FANTASY XIV Twitch channel. They’re free, so make sure you join us then.
