Square Enix Co., Ltd (henceforth “the Company”) is delighted to hear that fans want to share videos and images of our games online.

While the Company would like to accommodate such requests, the images, videos, characters, music and all other media that make up our games are the intellectual property of the Company or its licensors, and therefore the Company has set out individual guidelines regarding the use of videos and other assets from each of its games on a title-by-title basis, in order to suitably maintain and protect the settings and fiction of the Company’s games going forward.

Regarding the use of videos, live streams, and images (hereafter referred to as “videos etc.”) of “STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R” (hereafter referred to as “the Software”), please adhere to the terms of these guidelines.

[Who is eligible]

Individual users living outside Japan (including those who receive payment or other rewards from a corporate body through streaming gameplay). If you are located in Japan or have obtained a Japanese version of the Software, please check the different guidelines that apply to you.

[What can be used]

The items that can be used in accordance with these guidelines (henceforth “Materials for Use”) are as follows:

• Fan kit(s) for the Software
• The official website for the Software (as noted below) and any text, information, images and videos contained within that site below operated by the Company

• Any text displayed within the Software, screenshots taken from the game and videos captured from the game
• Tracks and music data used in the Software, however it doesn’t include the part which the song named stella is used.

However, this excludes the following:

• Sections within the Software where screen capture and recording are prohibited.

[Extent of use permitted]

(1) Those who receive payment or other rewards from a corporate body through streaming gameplay:

• Use on personal social network services.
• Streaming of the Materials for Use on video sharing sites (e.g. “YouTube”, “Twitch”) that have been licensed by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) for the use of music.

(2) Those who do not apply to (1) above:

• Use of the Materials for Use on personal web pages and blogs, video sharing sites, and social networking services. However, streaming of videos and live streams is restricted to video sharing sites (e.g. “YouTube, “Twitch”) that have been licensed by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) for the use of music.

*Use under a corporate body name is not permitted.
*Please do not use on the types of sites and services listed below:

• Sites or services that require payment to access them.
• Sites or services that are only aimed at users aged 18 or over.
• Sites or services that are morally inappropriate.
• Sites or services that are related to religious, political or antisocial activities

[Terms of use]

• Please do not use for commercial purposes.
  However, revenue systems that officially provided for content creators by video streaming sites (e.g. “YouTube”, “Twitch”) that have been licensed for music usage by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) can be used. If there is an inquiry from a video sharing site regarding videos and live stream that use such a revenue systems, please refer them to these guidelines.

• Please display the legal lines below in any posts or live streams:

Also, if images or videos are captured using game console functions, the lines above may be displayed automatically. If such images or videos are to be used as they are, then the legal lines do not need to be added manually.

• Please do not remove or modify the trademark and copyright notices from Materials for Use.
• Exceptions are made for platforms such as “X (formerly Twitter)” where space to display text is limited, and the legal lines do not need to be displayed in these cases.
• If multiple images or videos are included on the same page, then one set of legal lines can be displayed to cover all content on that page, rather than individually for each image or video.
• If streaming scenes that form major plot points in the game’s story, please make sure to display a “spoiler alert” notice to prevent ruining the experience for people who have not played it yet.
• Posting, streaming, publishing etc. (hereafter referred to as “posting etc.”) of videos or playlists with the sole purpose of showing movie scenes (including event scenes, same hereafter), publishing only music or song data, posting etc. of videos etc. or playlists for the purpose of listening to the music or songs, are forbidden.
  Examples of videos etc. that are prohibited for posting etc.:
• Movie scenes only or videos where the content is mostly taken from movie scenes
• Allowing continuous listening of game music while not playing the game normally, such as making the player character stand still or continuously repeating a simple action.
• Publishing multiple images from movie scenes, for the sole purpose of showing the content of said movie scenes.
• Anything set up with the aim of listening to music, such as a images or images set to music.
• Please do not combine the Materials for Use with other content originating outside of the Software.
• Please refrain from secondary use of videos etc. that have already been published.
  e.g. Collecting already published videos etc. and distributing them through a different medium, such as a booklet. Such activities are considered as secondary use, regardless of whether the content is provided for free or charged for.
• Please do not use for the purpose of advertising other products or services etc.
• Please adhere to the terms of use required by the platform that the content will be used on.
• Please do not take part in acts that may lead to slander or libel towards others.
• Please do not use for any purposes that run contrary to standards of public order or moral decency.
• Please do not use in relation to any religious, political or other antisocial activities.
• If the Company requests for videos etc. to be taken down for whatever reason, please comply and take them down without delay. The Company may also delete any videos etc. that it judges to be inappropriate.
• Please do not overly process or modify the Materials for Use.

However, alteration is permitted in the following cases.

• Adding your own voiceover to videos showcasing or commentating on the Software

[Other]

• The Company will not take any responsibility towards users, including Materials for Use infringing the rights of third parties. Users will the Materials for Use under their own responsibility. Also, the Company will not take any responsibility regarding damages or disputes with third parties including other players caused by using “the Subjects”.
• The Company reserves the right to update the contents of these guidelines at any time, at the Company’s discretion. If videos etc. that were posted etc. before these guidelines have been updated do not meet the terms of the new guidelines after the update, the affected videos etc. may be deleted.
• Users whose posting etc. of videos etc. is in violation of these guidelines may be subject to penalties including temporary or permanent suspension of the right to use the Software.
