Based on the beloved manga and anime series, DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai, it features multiple playable characters, each with their own very distinct fighting styles. Today, we’re going to introduce you to the combat of the game, show some new screenshots and explain a little about what to expect.
Basics of combat
In this new action RPG, you play as Dai and his friends. You’ll win battles by using a variety of attacks, guarding and dodging against the enemy, as well as using skills and spells from DRAGON QUEST: The Adventure of Dai!
Let’s take a closer look at some of your combat options:
Normal Attacks
Normal attacks with your equipped weapon can be chained for up to three strikes.
Skills
Skills and spells unleash powerful attacks. Be careful though - you’ll have to wait for the cooldown before you use them again.
Coups de Grâce
“Coup de Grâce” are ultimate attacks that can be used when you fill up a dedicated gauge. They’re your trump card to change the tide of battle!
Unique Skills
Each character has their own “Unique Skill” to put the battles in your favour.
Defence
Use “Guard” to reduce damage from enemy attacks…
…and “Dodge” to evade attacks.
Timing them right will make them even more effective!
The battle styles of Dai and his friends
Dai, Popp, Maam, and Hyunckel all have unique attacks and skills. Here, we’ll show you their characteristics such as their skills and Coups de Grâce! Of course, these are just some examples. There are many more skills and spells that we’re not revealing here!
Dai
Dai uses the Avan Style Sword Technique and cuts down enemies in close combat!
Skill: Wave Slash
Coup de Grâce: Avan Strash
Unique Skill: Draconic Aura
“Draconic Aura” greatly increases all Dai’s stats!
Popp
Popp excels at ranged magic attacks and is adept at Fire and Ice magic. His Coup de Grâce “Kafrizz” is immensely powerful.
Skill: Crackle
Coup de Grâce: Kafrizz
Unique Skill: Mediation
Popp’s unique skill, Mediation, shortens the recovery time between each of his skills.
Maam (Warrior Priest)
Maam is skilled at Heal Spells. Her Coup de Grâce lets her shoots enemies with bullets infused with the magic of Crackle!
Skill: Midheal
Coup de Grâce: Magic Bullet: Crackle
Unique Skill: Reload
In addition to attacks with her hammer spear, she also supports others with her Magic Bullet Gun. Remember to “Reload” the gun during battle!
Hyunckel (Dark Armour Blade)
Hyunckel is a master of Dark Aura. “Bloody Scryde” is his Coup de Grâce - he developed it during his days in the Dark Army!
Skills: Dark Puppetry Aura Hand

Unique Skill: Amdo
Hyunckel crushes enemies with his Avan Style Sword Technique and many Dark Aura skills. “Amdo” increases his defense further by wearing the Dark Armour Blade!
Characters change over the story
Maam and Hyunckel change their battle styles as the story progresses. Maam changes her vocation to “Martial Artist” and Hyunckel changes his weapon to the “Dark Armour Spear” to help Dai on his adventure!
Maam (Martial Artist)
Skills of the “Warrior Master Style” are unrivalled in strength. Launch a flurry of Normal Attacks and Skills and finish them off with “Refractor Fist”!

Coup de Grâce: Refractor Fist
Unique Skill: Focus
After learning the ways of “Warrior Master Style”, Maam overpowers enemies with her agility and close combat. She can use her Unique Skill, “Focus”, to shorten the recovery time between skills to help land consecutive attacks!
Hyunckel (Dark Armour Spear)
Hyunckel eliminates enemies with the “Avan Style Spear Technique”. “Grand Cross” is a powerful Coup de Grâce where he converts his increased life energy into Aura and unleashes it!
Skill: Earth Strike
Coup de Grâce: Grand Cross
Unique Skill: Amdo
After changing his weapon to a spear, Hyunckel is just as strong as he was with his sword! Of course, he can still use “Amdo”!
That was just a brief look at the fast-paced and tactical combat in Infinity Strash: DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai. The game launches September 28, 2023 for PS5, PS4, Switch, PC via Steam and Windows Store, and Xbox X|S.
