FFXIV: Palace of the Dead now LIVE!

By Square Enix Team

Hello, everyone!

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 3.3, Revenge of the Horde, debuted in early June and introduced a slew of new features and content! Adventurers seeking the salvation of Ishgard were pit against the great wyrm Nidhogg and were able to see through the conclusion of the Dragonsong War storyline. Everyone got to experience the continued hijinks of their favourite agent of inquiry and inspector extraordinaire, Hildibrand. Add to that new dungeons, the treasure-filled Aquapolis, and a whole lot of changes. Have a look at the trailer!

But today, Patch 3.35 has its time to shine because an entirely new type of dungeon experience is available for all of those looking for a unique experience.

Enter the Deep Dungeon - Palace of the Dead

In the subterranean city of Gelmorra, deep within a forgotten corner of Issom-Har, stout-hearted explorers have uncovered the entrance to a labyrinthine dungeon. Those who set foot inside its maddening halls find their vigor drained by an irresistible fog of innervation, and repeated excursions have failed to map its seemingly inconstant architecture. After hearing chilling accounts of spectral denizens, locals took to whispering of a "Palace of the Dead," and the Wood Wailers now seek the assistance of adventurers in laying bare its haunted secrets...

The Palace of the Dead is a completely new type of dungeon challenge that features exploration in an ever-changing environment, filled with deadly traps, random bonuses, unique mechanics and more! You, the adventurers, must brave 50 floors filled with obstacles to overcome, treasures to find, and enemies to defeat. For this, you will be outfitted with special aetherpool arms and armor that you can enhance as you progress through the dungeon. You’ll even be able to acquire the aetherpool arms for use outside of the instance if you reach floor 50 and fulfil certain conditions!

Play With Your Friends

What may worry some can be a boon for others – the fact that your level outside of the Palace of the Dead has nothing to do with your level inside means that you can enter it with friends of all levels, as long as they have cleared the initial quest! To accept this quest they’ll just need to have one of their classes at level 17. This also means that players on trial accounts can have a look inside!

Harkening back to typical RPGs, you will be able to utilize two save slots where you can opt to save progress, with one slot for playing solo and matching with others,  and another for when playing with a set group of friends that you journey together with! The deeper you go, the harsher the challenges, and your progress is only saved after you’ve beaten ferocious bosses on every 10th floor. Get knocked out in between and you will find yourself brought back to your last save point.

Find unique items and unknown treasures – but careful, as some treasure chests may bite…

For solo players who have confidence in their abilities after levelling up their character and enhancing their aetherpool gear, this is the ultimate challenge of their skill, although you can of course also enter with up to 4 players. And it won’t end here – in the future, features like a ranking list for those that cleared the dungeon in record time and new floors up to 200 will be implemented!

So, show your skill and the mastery of your class or job and enter the Palace of the Dead – available today in Final Fantasy XIV.
